Stephen Tayo, a photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria, is using his lens to capture fashion and street style, telling authentic stories in his work.
With projects including his Ibeji series, which examined twins in Nigeria and was displayed at The Palais de Tokyo in Paris last year, the 25 year old is taking inspiration from his roots and sharing his vision of Lagos. He has shot for The New York Times, Dazed and Vogue, with the latter describing him as ‘the street style star in Lagos finding beauty in the everyday’. Last year, Tayo collaborated with Danielle Mbonu and Baingor Joiner to direct visuals for Skepta and Wizkid’s hit single Energy (Stay Far Away), and was subsequently presented with a silver plaque for contributing to more than 200,000 sales. In January, his images from Antwaun Sargent’s debut book, The New Black Vanguard, were displayed at New York’s Aperture Foundation gallery.
